These are the lyrics of the Scottish national anthem

Scotland has captured the hearts of many football fans at this European Championship. It had little to do with national coach Alex McLeish’s team playing, but with the national anthem. That Flowers of Scotland has reverberated throughout the stadium in recent weeks. Shiver! But what are Scotland fans actually singing about?

Actually for every country from the UK God Save the Queen National anthem. In 1997, the Scots chose their own song, composed by musician Roy Williamson. The ‘national anthem’ has been sung informally since 1993.

Lyrics of the Scottish national anthem

O Flower of Scotland,

When will we see it

You like it again,

That fought and died for,

Your little one bit Hill and Glen,

And stand against him (against who?),

Edward’s Army is proud,

And told him to go home,

To think again.

Those days are past now,

And in the past

they have to stay

But we can still rise now,

And be a nation again,

It’s against him (against who?),

Edward’s Army is proud,

And told him to go home,

To think again.
