Part of bankrupt Perry Sport taken over by British group, a number of sports shops make a fresh start | Economy

British shopping and sports group Frasers Group is taking over up to twenty stores from Sports Unlimited Retail, the company behind Perry Sport, Aktiesport and Sprinter, which declared bankruptcy in early December. Curator Kees van de Meent told ANP this.

Curators cannot yet confirm whether the Perry Sport, Aktiesport and Sprinter names will disappear from the street scene as a result of the partial takeover. “These names have also been purchased by the Frasers Group. “It’s up to them to continue with this name or with their own name,” Van de Meent said.

Unlimited Number of Sports Retailers a total of 54 stores in the Netherlands, where a total of around 1100 people work. Frasers Group already has five sports stores in the Netherlands under the Sports World banner.

Van de Meent couldn’t say yet how many and which Sports Unlimited Retail stores would ultimately be taken over. This also means that it cannot be said which Sports Unlimited Retail store employees are affected and which are not, added the curator.

According to Van de Meent, Frasers Group wants to start with new stock in its stores. “Sales in stores will continue at least until March 1, 2024,” he also said. Curators also noted that some stores may close early if sales there are faster than currently estimated.

Lost

Curator previously said his company had been making losses for years before a court in Amsterdam declared it bankrupt last month. Until 2016, Perry Sport and Aktiesport were still part of the Unlimited Sports Group (USG), which went bankrupt that year.

Frasers Group owns the Sports Direct sports chain, among others, with more than five hundred stores in the UK and 170 in the European Union. The company also owns the British Flannel department store chain, which has fifty branches in the UK.
