The British Labor Party has high hopes of winning the next election. This will be seen at the conference to be held in Liverpool in the coming days. “Leader Keir Starmer is breaking so many promises that it’s hard to know what he stands for,” says correspondent Lia van Bekhoven.

Elections in the UK are likely to be held at the end of next year. Although the Conservative Party has served as Prime Minister for thirteen years, that means they chance of downfall for the Labor Party. Polls show two things: Britain is ready for radical change and the Social Democratic Party has been ahead in recent months. “We have changed and because we have changed, we are now the party of change,” said Labor leader Keir Starmer.

It remains to be seen whether Britain can really expect complete change from the conservative Starmer. “British voters don’t know what Starmer stands for or who he is, pollsters say,” Van Bekhoven said. The pollsters found that one in five Britons thought he was good in crisis situations and saw personality in him.

Starmer is very fluid in his views and according to Van Bekhoven, his opinions and positions change all the time. For example, he has long been tied to migration and open borders, and not anymore. Starmer promised to renationalise privatized utilities and abolish the House of Lords and he now has different thoughts on that. He also changed his views on the tax-exempt status of private schools and he initially understood, but then didn’t understand, Extinction Rebellion’s climate protests. Despite Labor’s lead in the polls, there are no clear plans for the future.
