Just in time in Boekelo for Military Inspection | Sport

For a number of participants in the 52nd edition of Boekelo Military, this Wednesday was quite challenging. Five riders from the UK were detained at customs on British soil and arrived just in time for a vet check.

“Since Brexit, it has become increasingly difficult for British people to travel to mainland Europe with horses. “Checking all the documents sometimes takes a very long time,” said Dirk Stuip, commenting on the veterinary inspection on Wednesday afternoon.

After the last rider presented his horse, which he will start on Thursday in the first part of the competition (dressage test), five more participants reported at the Sportpark De Weeze parking lot. “Sorry we’re late,” apologized Rosalind Canter, who was included in the list of participants for this edition with two horses.

The three-person international jury, together with the so-called technical delegation and Stuip, did not make a fuss and did not strictly adhere to the order of the inspection list. “We’re glad you made it,” was the response.

Just as all combinations receive the desired ‘acceptance’ from Stuip, spoken on behalf of the judge. This means the competition starts on Thursday with 114 combinations. The number was halved from the initial plan, as the organization had not heard any language or signals from rider Julia Norman of Zimbabwe.

This year the Netherlands followed Boekelo Military with eleven combinations. Brabander Tim Lips, who has recently become a trendsetter in the name of the Dutch team, is absent this time.
