Storm Babet is heading towards the UK with heavy rain

Storm Babet has reached the UK. The British Meteorological Office has issued a code yellow for Northern Ireland due to heavy rainfall. The weather warning is mainly in effect in the eastern region. Irish weather institute Met Éireann has also declared the local code orange due to Babet.

According to the Met Office, traffic may be affected by the rain. Public transportation may also experience disruption. In Ireland, an orange weather warning is in effect for Cork and Waterford. Code yellow applies to almost all of Ireland until Wednesday evening.

Babet will cause more problems in England from Thursday. Scotland in particular must prepare for significant disruption. The Met Office has issued a code orange for central and eastern Scotland. Code red will also apply to a small part of Scotland from Thursday.

Flood

Up to 200 millimeters of rain could fall in Scotland. “Heavy and continuous rain falls on land that is already saturated, creating a risk of flooding“, meteorologist Steven Keates previously warned.

The Met Office has issued a code yellow for parts of southern Scotland and northern England for Thursday. This involves strong wind gusts, especially on the coast. The weather bureau also warned of flooding.
