Age Okkema and Mechteld van der Kooi took the title in the street competition at Workum

The finish of the Provinsje Fryslân Priis took place at a street competition in Workum. Augustinus Hoekstra with GPD Aron (Jouwe 485) topped the list until then. Behind them, by a few points, Age Okkema with Dietmer fan ‘e Ridderdyk (Omer 493) and Albert Minkema with Idsert van de Lits (Maurits 437). This final ended in a very interesting and surprising way.

Straight oriented

Especially in street competitions, it is important to train the horse’s position well. Not an easy task, as will soon become apparent, as horses usually find the first few meters a bit exciting, but soon they show themselves proudly and expectantly. In the eyes of the jury, things did not go well for GPD Aron and his streak of success did not remain intact. He had to settle for a lower ranking. On the other hand, Dietmer fan ‘e Ridderdijk ran a very strong race in which he stood out mainly for his noble attitude. He got second place in the competition. The winner of the day was Jurre 495 (Maurits 437), who also competed with Jelmer Chardon for a long time. The final caused a shift in the top rankings with Dietmer fan ‘e Ridderdijk as the overall winner of the Provinsje Fryslân Priis. GPD Aron was second and Idsert van de Lits was third.

Sixteen competitors

A permanent fixture at Workum is also the under-saddle harness championship. A popular section among participants. Every year the number of combinations increases, there was even a stoppage introduced this year. In the end, sixteen riders were now able to participate and it was quite a difficult decision this year. Not all participants managed to show a good stable run. Order and fronts also count, of course. Susanne (Norbert 444) with Anne Rikst Eppinga, GPD Aron (Jouwe 485) with Mare Gerritsma and Falko VDK (Tsjalle 454) with Mechteld van der Kooi rounded out the top three. They ran the most consistent race with the most praise going to Mechteld van der Kooi with Falko becoming the new champion of the championship.

Other parts

The premier class at Workum was won this year by GPD Ward (Thorben 466) with Augustinus Hoekstra.
