Shuka Minerals plc announces board changes -November 7, 2023 at 8:00 am

Shuka Minerals Plc announced the appointment of Mr. Quinton van der Burgh, CEO of Q Global Commodities, Limited as its new Non-Executive Chairman and Director of the Board. The company also announced further strengthening of its board of directors with the appointment of experienced financial and technical executive Dr. Allen Zimbler and Marcel (‘Marc’) Nally as independent non-executive directors, effective immediately. Appointment of Mr. Quinton van der Burgh, Dr. Allen Zimbler and Mr Marc Nally follow strategic investments by Q Global Commodities and Gathoni Muchai Investments Limited, and the appointment of Mr Jason Brewer as Executive Director in June 2023.

These additional appointments further strengthen the Company’s Board of Directors while the potential acquisition of additional mining projects and further mining development in Africa is also being considered. Following these appointments, Nicholas Von Schirnding and Andre Hope have immediately resigned from their non-executive directorships of the Company. Mr Quinton van der Burgh is one of South Africa’s leading mining entrepreneurs, with over 20 years of mining experience and a track record of successfully developing over 47 projects to mining stage, including two large-scale mining operations.

Mr Van der Burgh is the founder and CEO of Q Global Commodities, one of South Africa’s largest private mining companies, with independent subsidiaries in logistics, beneficiation, plant leasing and a rapidly growing metals portfolio. In addition to his extensive business activities, he has also been instrumental in the founding of numerous non-profit organizations, investment firms, and mining companies in Africa, Europe, and North America. Dr. Allen Zimbler (BA Hons, MBA, PhD) has over 40 years’ experience in strategic management and organizational development and investment banking in South Africa and the UK.

Dr. Zimbler was a member of Investec Bank plc’s Global Executive team for over 15 years, where he served as Chief Integration Officer and Group Executive Director for the last five years. Previously, Dr. Zimbler ran his own management consultancy group in South Africa for over 25 years, where he advised African and international organizations on growth opportunities in various sectors. Dr. Zimbler currently serves as Director of the African Leadership Institute, a pan-African organization providing premier leadership programs for Africa’s young future leaders, a Knight of the Honorary Knights of the Round Table in London, an Honorary Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge University and Wolfson College, University of Oxford, Chairman of the Ju/’hoansi Building Fund, and Master of the Worshipful Company of Carpenters in the City of London.

Marc Nally is an experienced geologist and exploration manager with over 25 years of experience in mining and mineral exploration in Africa, South America and Europe. Most recently, Mr Nally served as Non-Executive Director and Consulting Exploration Geologist at AQSE listed company, Marula Mining plc, where he was involved in the acquisition of several advanced mining projects in Africa, and Consulting Exploration Geologist at AIM listed company, Tertiary Minerals. plc , with a particular focus on delivering projects in Zambia. Mr Nally is the founder and former director of Moxico Resources plc, a privately owned exploitation, development and exploration company that recently commenced copper mining at the Mimbula Copper Mine in Zambia.

He was instrumental in identifying and negotiating the purchase of the Mimbula Copper Mine and the purchase of the Kalengwa Copper Mine. In addition, Mr. Nally has been involved in several exploration projects and mining start-ups in various countries, including Russia, Spain, Finland, Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Zambia and South Africa.
