Shaw Contracts Names Winners of 18th Design Awards Program

Now in its 18th year, the Shaw Contract Design Awards program is an opportunity to recognize spaces that inspire new ways of living, working, learning, and healing through a Design Optimist lens. Each entry is judged to select the project that best represents design from each region, based on the following criteria:

  • Design process: Clarity around design intent and implementation.
  • Thorough think about: Creating space for all types of current and future users
  • Sustainable thinking: Attention is also paid to projects that align with Shaw Contract’s four People Together Planet Forever ambitions; Material health, circular economy, CO2 impact and diversity, equality and inclusion.

The 2023 Design Awards program attracted 650 participants from 40 countries around the world. All submitted projects advance to the first assessment stage; where an elite panel of industrial design leaders in each region worked together to select the first “Best Region” winner in the Awards’ history.

The Best of Region – UK & Continental Europe winners are:

Elfi Vastgoed by MVD design studio, Netherlands

Hudson River Trade by M.Moser Associates, England
“Fulfills the four pillars, the project is well thought out, it seems to fulfill a powerful and complex task, the design is well thought out, the finish, the choice of materials and details are good.”

Three Headquarters by Morgan Lovell, UK
“A really well thought out and beautifully designed scheme. Detailed, well executed, meets all the assessment criteria and goes further in terms of diversity, inclusivity and sustainability. This design really reflects the team’s cohesion,” said the jury.

The judging panel consists of:

  • Habitaksi, London, United Kingdom, Rianne de Kruijf –
  • Senior Interior Designer at DDock, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and
  • Ezequiel Gonzalez Sanchez – Senior Architect at Colliers, Prague, Czech Republic.

Each Best of Region winner will now move on to the next stage of judging, where a panel of international design stars will award our Best of Globe winners. The Best of Globe winners will be announced at the end of September 2023.
