Political chaos in the UK escalates: Home Minister Suella Braverman resigns

Suella Braverman, Britain’s 42-year-old Home Secretary, resigned from Prime Minister Liz Truss’ government, coming under heavy criticism. He said he did this because he made a professional mistake, but he also said he was concerned about government policy. Last week, Kwasi Kwarteng, Minister of Finance, was dismissed by the Prime Minister. Political chaos in England is increasing.

“It is with great regret that I choose to resign,” Braverman wrote in his resignation letter. The reason was that he used his personal email address to send documents to his colleagues in parliament. He should have done that with his government email address. “This is a technical violation of the regulations.”

Those mistakes were the reason for his dismissal, he stressed, although he also wrote that he was concerned about the direction his country was taking. “Not only have we broken important promises to the people, but I also have serious concerns about the government’s willingness to keep its commitments on migration.” Braverman has also previously criticized Prime Minister Truss’ excessive budget actions.

Braverman met with under fire British Prime Minister Liz Truss on Wednesday afternoon to announce his resignation. Truss has even cleared her agenda for this. He appointed Grant Shapps as the new Home Secretary later in the day. A surprising choice as Boris Johnson’s former Transport Secretary showed himself to be a supporter of Rishi Sunak, Truss’s rival, during the election campaign.

New hit

The departure of Braverman, one of the most important figures in her government, is a new blow for Liz Truss, 47, who has only been prime minister for six weeks. He has become very drunk since his 180 degree change in attitude towards tax policy. This was seen as inevitable after unfunded tax cuts caused serious unrest in financial markets. He sacked his finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng and replaced him with Jeremy Hunt. Its popularity is well below freezing point.
