Mohamed Al-Fayed (94) dies in London, almost 26 years after the fatal accident of Princess Diana and her son Dodi

Al-Fayed was born in Egypt but has lived in England for the past sixty years. There he built a successful business empire. He is best known as the owner of Harrods department store and Fulham football club. Al-Fayed sold Harrods to Qatar Holdings in 2010 and Fulham to American businessman Shahid Khan in 2013.

Al-Fayed’s son Dodi, a film producer, made world news in the second half of the 1990s for his relationship with Britain’s Princess Diana, who had recently divorced Crown Prince (and current King of England) Charles. Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed died in a fatal traffic accident in Paris on 31 August 1997.

King of shipping

After the fatal accident, Mohamed Al-Fayed emphasized that the deaths of his son and Diana were not an accident but were engineered by British security forces. However, after an investigation, French police concluded that it was an accident, caused in part by driver Henri Paul’s speeding and alcohol consumption.

Mohamed Al-Fayed was born in 1929 in Alexandria, Egypt’s second city. He made his first fortune as a shipping magnate, after which he emigrated to London and invested in Harrods, Fulham, and the Ritz Hotel.

According to British channel Sky News, Al-Fayed was buried on Friday at the Central Mosque in Regent Park in London, after Friday prayers.
