On Tuesday evening, the Royal Military Police found two stowaways in a horse trailer in Hoek van Holland. The case concerns a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both of Algerian descent. They tried to cross illegally into England.

The discovery occurred during routine border checks, where all vehicles are checked before being allowed to board the ferry. A bloodhound named ‘Ice’ from Marechaussee arrives at the horse trailer, leading to the discovery of the two men. They hide in areas usually reserved for haystacks. Marechaussee has carried out further investigations into the situation of the minor foreigner and the young man.

This incident is not the only case of climbers that Marechaussee has encountered in Hoek van Holland recently. On Tuesday, October 10, three Albanians were intercepted inside a trailer, and on Friday, October 6, two Algerians were found clinging to an axle under a trailer. Marechaussee stressed the importance of thorough inspections on ferries, especially when temperatures drop. Hiding in a trailer or truck for long periods of time without heating can be very dangerous.
