Earlier this week, there were rumors that Lucid Games might no longer be working on a Twisted Metal reboot. According to VGC now it turns out that the Firesprite studio has taken over the Twisted Metal game.
Furthermore, Reset User ERA noted that Matt Southern, director of several Motorstorm games, gave up his role as game director at Lucid this month and assumed the same role at Firesprite.
Whether Southern will actually work on the Twisted Metal project at his new company remains unclear. Firesprite already has several projects in production, including the new PlayStation VR2 game Horizon Call of the Mountain.
Firesprite acquisition by Sony
Firesprite was acquired by Sony last year and is located in the UK. The studio was founded in 2012 by former members of SIE Studio Liverpool, after being closed by Sony. It is not yet clear why the Japanese publisher moved the project to its new studio. Allegedly this is due to Destruction All-Stars for the PlayStation 5. The game was not well received, so Sony may be worried that Twisted Metal will fall victim too.
For now, there has been no official confirmation that a new Twisted Metal game is in the works.
