Cyber attack on SD Worx in the UK

European HR and payroll management company SD Worx was hit by a cyber attack in the UK. This forced them to shut down the IT infrastructure for payroll and HR services in the region.

The company notified its customers on Monday that its UK and Ireland division had been the target of a cyber attack. “Our security team last night wicked activity discovered in our hosted data centers,” the company said in an advisory to customers in the UK and Ireland.

SD Worx indicated that it took immediate action by proactively isolating its systems and servers to prevent further damage. As a result, the customer portal for SD Worx in the UK is currently inaccessible, although the login portal for other European countries is functioning normally.

‘No ransomware’

SD Worx was originally a Belgian company, but now increasingly functions as a European group. Partly due to acquisitions, the company is active in 26 countries, mainly in Europe. It employs more than 7,000 people and calculates wages for about 5.2 million workers at 82,000 companies. According to the company, this makes it one of the top five in the world.

As an HR advisor, SD Worx processes personal data such as name, address, date of birth, telephone number, bank account number and employee evaluation. But in a statement to a trade publication BleepingComputer The company stated that the attack did not involve ransomware and that there is currently no evidence that data was compromised.
