Axiom: the first Spaniard to debut on SmackDown

Carlos Ruiz signed a page in Spanish sports history. The masked man from Madrid (26 years old) is the first wrestler born and raised in Spain to fight on the main card of a WWE event, the most important wrestling company in the world. He debuted with Dragon Lee, his former NXT partner, and lost a fight that convinced fans.

Axiom fell in love with the public in his debut on SmackDown. On WWE’s main roster, the Spaniard starred in an incredible fight, landing several jumps and holds to punish Dragon Lee, an old acquaintance in the ring. They both gave it their all and, with a spectacular moonsault outside the ring, Ruiz put his hands on his knees. They haven’t announced any injuries yet, so this could be a major blow. Despite the loss, he entered WWE in good shape.

Carlos knows how to achieve success in a sport that is not very well known in Spain. He began wrestling as a teenager and debuted under that name A-Kid. The Spaniard is promising and attracts the attention of everyone who sees him. He thought about quitting in 2018, but those thoughts were put to rest when he showed off his skills in a match with Ricochet, one of WWE’s biggest stars. Due to the few national opportunities he had, he went to Europe to pursue his dream and made it come true. Axiom and his compatriot Carlos Romo became the first Spaniards to debut in WWE at NXT, in May 2019, the company’s showcase for young talents.

Ruiz caught the company’s attention because of his time in NXT. He won his first Heritage Cup in England (the first time a Spaniard had lifted the title). The show closed and WWE brought in the Spaniard, who had to move to Orlando to train there. In Spain, Carlos was a mathematics teacher before he could devote himself solely to fighting and changed his stage name to Axiom. Mathematics influences his character and his fighting in the ring. It’s a tough road to get to the top.
