The UK does not want higher aviation taxes

The UK Minister for Aviation, Maritime and Safety does not want to increase aviation taxes in the UK. The Minister really wants to focus more on making aviation more sustainable by encouraging the use of sustainable fuel.

Flight tax in the UK varies between 7.50 euros for domestic flights and 220 euros for long-haul flights in business class. Since the amount was only introduced recently, the ministry does not see any opportunity to implement an increase.

To facilitate aviation sustainability, at least five SAF Sustainable Aviation Fuel production plants must be operational in the UK within three years. However, airlines, including Virgin Atlantic, have commented on the UK government’s plans.

Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, previously criticized the speed of SAF’s introduction in the country. An important reason for this is the relatively limited government investment in sustainable fuels. The UK government has so far pledged €190 million to develop SAF.
