Semes asked for the support of political parties to agree on the specifics of State of Emergency and State of Emergency

The Spanish Society of Emergency and Emergency Medicine (Semes) is working to demonstrate the importance of Emergency and Emergency services in the current Spanish Health System and is gathering support for the approval of its specialty by the Spanish Government.

The President of the Society, Tato Vázquez Lima, stated that Spain “needs to agree on the specializations of Emergency and Emergency Medicine, within the framework The State Pact for Public Health for various reasons, but the main one is solving the problem of a deep shortage of doctors.”

Semes also continued with its long-started round of political meetings, both at the national and regional levels, to publicize the current situation of the Emergency and Emergency services and gather support for a special approval soon. To date, it has succeeded in garnering majority support for the Government of Spain to recognize, as soon as possible, the specialty Emergency and Emergency Medicine in Spain.

political meeting

The Institute started this institutional loop with an act at the Congress of Deputies to make these Emergency and Emergency services visible in Spain, and held a meeting with the president of the Chamber, Meritxell Batet. Recently, he has achieved majority support from the parliamentary group in the upper house, after appearing before the Senate Health Committee. Likewise, he has held meetings with political and trade union leaders, and with various Autonomous Governments, the most recent meeting being with the Health Minister of the Government of La Rioja, María Somalo. In the same way, he hopes to speak with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and with the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias.

Vázquez Lima recalls that at the moment “there were already proposals for the specialization of Emergency and Emergency Medicine, which received approval from most Autonomous Communities and political parties, submitted to the Ministry of Health and awaiting approval from the Human Resources Commission of the Ministry”. “And all of this, of course, strictly following the procedures laid down by the Royal Decree governing specialties in Health Sciences, which was approved last summer”, he explains.

In addition, it has been warned of “the need to respect the vocation of young people who wish to become specialist doctors in Emergencies and Emergencies, the obligation to prevent brain drain and commitment to generational change”.

Meet Alberto Núñez Feijóo

Semes and the European Society for Emergency Medicine (Eusem) also held meetings with the president of the People’s Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

In a meeting of the presidents of the two scientific societies with opposition leaders, the latter expressed his strongest support “for creation specializing in Emergency Medicine and Emergencies which already exists, de facto, in Spain and it would be reckless not to regulate it soon” and added that, if the current manufacturing process is not completed, it promises to make the specialty Emergency Medicine and Emergency Situations “a reality upon reaching the Government” .

Eusem’s President, Jim Connolly, representing the 37 European countries that already have Emergency and Emergency specializations, has informed Núñez Feijóo that the specialization “has existed for more than 50 years in countries such as the UK, and should be approved now in Spain” and That “It’s surprising that in Spain it’s only in the military field.”

“The Spanish Health System will be on a European basis”, Conelly assured, and added that, in addition, the Spanish EP “is highly regarded internationally and is dedicated to training in this specialty in many countries around the world.” world, while they are ignored in their own country, Spain”.
