BAARN (ANP) Baarn actress Pia Douwes will receive this year’s Oeuvre Music Award at the Music Awards Gala, which will take place on April 28. The organization announced this on Wednesday. Douwes received the prize because, according to the jury, he was “the biggest Dutch music star”.
Special oeuvre prizes have previously been awarded to the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Yan Tax, Björn ‘Abba’ Ulvaeus, Joop van den Ende, Jos Brink, Willem Nijholt, Harry Bannink and Annie MG Schmidt. The award is not given every year.
Douwes celebrated his 35th birthday at the theater this year. She played her first role in the Netherlands in the musical Cats, overseas she made her debut in Vienna in the Little Shop of Horrors. Since then, the actress has played in more than fifty productions at home and abroad. He has performed on stage in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, England, USA and Russia. Among his biggest productions are hits such as Elisabeth, Billy Elliot, Sunset Boulevard, Cabaret and Chicago.
Next season, Douwes will appear in the Dutch version of the Broadway hit The Prom. She played the role of frustrated actress Dee Dee Allen, who was hoping for one big star role in the twilight of her career. The role was played by Meryl Streep in the Netflix film adaptation, which came out a year ago.
