Horizon Worlds will be available on smartphones and PC, but not yet in Belgium

Horizon Worlds has been available for VR Meta headsets since 2019. Now it’s also available on other devices.

Meta has been tinkering with his Metaverse for a long time. In 2019, the company launched the social app ‘Horizon Worlds’ for its VR headsets. Despite the popularity of Meta headsets, the VR platform never really managed to attract visitors: there were too few headsets in circulation. A version of Horizon Worlds will also be released for web browsers and smartphones, the company said more than a year and a half ago. Meta is now gradually opening two additional doors to their Metaverse.

Horizon Worlds will have web and smartphone versions starting today, although not immediately for everyone available. This platform will initially be launched early accessfor a limited number of users.

The fact that Horizon Worlds is now also available on mobile and PC is good news for Meta. The company has not shared official usage figures regarding the VR platform. Therefore, it is not clear exactly how many visitors cyberspace receives each month. However, based on the little information available, it seems the platform is going nowhere and there is hardly anyone to be found.

Earlier this year, Meta opened up the world of the metaverse to young users in the US and Canada. They can use the platform, but with some security measures. This way, adults can communicate freely with each other in the Metaverse. It’s different with children: they will only hear the voices of people they know, the voices of strangers are made unrecognizable. Teen accounts are also set to private by default, so other visitors can’t see their location or status.

Horizon Worlds in Belgium?

Horizon Worlds is a free app for Meta VR headsets, which is now also accessible on mobile devices and the web. The virtual world is currently only accessible to residents of Canada, France, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, England and America. Since Meta’s Quest headset is available here, it is expected that the platform will be introduced here at some point in the future. When is that for? Meta is silent on this for now in all languages. However, launching to other countries may increase the number of users.
