The Turkish government has ratified several international agreements in the fields of sports, transportation, economy and trade, according to the State Gazette on Thursday.
Agreements with Palestine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Vietnam and Lesotho were described in the newspaper.
The 2021 amendments made to the annex to the “European Treaty on the International Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road” prepared by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe have been ratified.
With the decision, about 40 clauses, as well as sub-articles of the agreement were changed.
The cooperation agreement signed on February 6 2018 between Turkey and Palestine in the field of youth and sports has also been ratified.
With this agreement, the two countries will cooperate in various fields such as lifelong learning, family, education, culture, science and technology, as well as arts and entrepreneurship.
The two countries will also be able to organize joint youth camps, exchange programs and projects, while similar projects will be implemented in sports, including working with sports organizations and encouraging women in sports.
The two countries will invite each other to the sporting events they host.
A Joint Turkey-Palestine Committee will also be formed to evaluate and develop cooperation in youth and sports policy and to encourage new partnerships.
The agreement will enter into force upon mutual notification after the completion of legal proceedings in both countries.
Road transport protocol with Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan
Turkey also ratified the minutes of the meeting of the Turkey-Uzbekistan Joint International Commission for International Road Transport, which was held in Tashkent from June 30 to July 1.
Meanwhile, the minutes of the Meeting of the Azerbaijan-Turkish Joint Commission for International Road Transport, signed in Istanbul on June 25, and the minutes of archival cooperation signed in Baku on May 10, 2012 were also ratified.
Economic and commercial agreement with Lesotho, Vietnam
The trade and economic cooperation agreement signed in Istanbul on November 3, 2016 with Lesotho was also approved.
As part of the agreement, Turkey and Lesotho will expand cooperation in areas such as trade development, joint investment, agricultural and livestock development, energy and mineral resources, science and technology, and services.
The parties will also give each other “most favored country status” in customs and taxes.
The Turkey-Lesotho Joint Economic Commission will be established under this agreement.
The agreement will be valid for five years from the date of entry into force.
The State Gazette also includes an agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters between Turkey and Vietnam.
Under the agreement signed on August 23, 2017 in Hanoi, the countries will cooperate and provide assistance in the prevention, investigation and eradication of customs violations in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
They will also inform each other about the specific methods used in fighting crime and new methods used to commit crimes as well as issues such as various illegal substances, weapons, counterfeit or pirated goods.
The parties should also carry out joint customs officer training and expert exchange.
Amendments made to certain articles of the Joint Transit Agreement at the Joint Transit Committee of the EU Transitional States were also approved.
In accordance with the Irish-Northern Ireland Protocol signed with Brexit, Northern Ireland is described as “part of the EU” for some articles of the agreement, even though it is part of the United Kingdom.
