The UK launches an investigation into Amazon’s abuse of power

Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) say to investigate whether Amazon also has a dominant position of power in the UK. If so, the CMA will want to know whether the company is abusing that position by prioritizing its own sales channels.

Amazon not only sells its own goods, but also offers a space for other sellers to make money through its commerce platform. According to many studies, such as recently from a technology site The markupthe tech giant structurally places its goods higher in search results than other sellers.

That’s one reason the European Commission has been investigating Amazon for years. That investigation may be coming to an end: according to Political both parties pushed for a settlement. Amazon then had to make adjustments to avoid fines.

VK can now handle Amazon itself

While the UK is still a member of the European Union, the country must wait for the results of the EU investigation. But now, the British government itself can go after Amazon.

The CMA wants to know, among other things, how Amazon uses data from other sellers, how the company determines its ranking in search results, and what goods it can sell under the Prime brand. For example, users with a Prime subscription can get these types of items delivered to their homes cheaper or for free.
