the majority of Britons want to return to the EU

Across all current polls, an average of 59 percent voted to rejoin the European family. So said the famous political scientist John Curtice Guard.

However, there is no real question of ‘bregret’, regrets about Brexit. Three-quarters of Brexit voters by then would still make the same decision. “A lot of people’s views on Brexit are deeply rooted,” said Curtice.

According to a poll conducted by the Tony Blair Institute, about a third of respondents agree with the status quo: 36 per cent do not want to return to the EU, 34 per cent still think leaving is the right decision. The think-tank founded by former Prime Minister Blair underlines that young people in particular, who have now reached voting age, are more pro-European than older age groups.

Only one in ten Brits now see Brexit as a success, according to a survey by London think tank ‘UK in a Changing Europe’. A majority of 52 percent think that Brexit didn’t work out. The same percentage say leaving the EU has hurt the UK economy. Even among those who voted for Brexit, only 18 percent were satisfied with the outcome.

Regardless of opinion on Brexit, the prestige of politicians in the UK has suffered a major blow. No less than three-quarters of respondents indicated they had lost faith in British politicians in recent years.

The Tony Blair Institute is calling on governments to voluntarily agree to European rules on product standards and food safety. That could form the basis for negotiations with the EU on closer trade ties, he said. “Our poll results show that the vast majority of Britons believe that Brexit in its current form is not working and would welcome a rapprochement between the UK and the EU,” said the think tank’s Anton Spisak.
