The Swiss federal administration decided this Wednesday not to impose a ban on the use of the Chinese social network TikTok on the phones of its public officials, despite vetoes in this direction introduced by countries such as France, Australia, Canada or the United Kingdom, among others.
According to national television RTS, Swiss authorities have decided to limit themselves to recommending to public workers that they use the Chinese social network “with caution”, which is hugely popular among the younger generation and in which users post all kinds of videos, generally of varying duration. very short.
They also suggest that, when using the social network, with more than 1,500 million monthly active users worldwide, officials provide as little personal information as possible.
Social networks are causing concern among many governmentsincluding the United States, fear there is a link between the Chinese communist regime and the company ByteDance, which owns TikTok.
There is also concern about the effect on mental health that use of these social networks could have among children and young people, due to addiction or obsession with making viral videos which can leave users more vulnerable.
