Oudesluis – NPO presenter and UK expert Tim de Wit is coming to Cultuurkerkje in Oudesluis on Thursday, November 2. De Wit will give a talk there about his book ‘Wankel Kingdom’.
‘Shaky Kingdom’ reflects the tumultuous times England experienced and especially how it was defined by shock. Tim de Wit was the UK correspondent (England, Scotland and Wales) for NOS and Trouw for many years. De Wit published his book ‘Shaky Kingdom: how I see Britain changing because of Brexit’ in mid-2022. He is currently the presenter of the NPO Radio 1 program ‘Buitenland’. He also produces the podcast ‘Europe Turns Door’.
Tim de Wit settled down in 2014 as a correspondent in the relative quiet of London. What followed were turbulent political events, intrigue, and most importantly, chaos. This country has been turned upside down and actually still is. In his book ‘Shaky Kingdom’, De Wit discusses England. And it turns out: it creaks and creaks on all sides. Scotland wants to leave, the weather is terrible in Northern Ireland, Boris Johnson is happy to lie, and even after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the oligarchy in London is only being cracked down sparingly. The future after Brexit is completely uncertain. At the same time, the British hoped that everything would work out.
