The British government provided parachutes for sending aid to Gaza
Britain will supply parachutes to enable more air deliveries of aid to the Gaza Strip. The British Foreign Office announced this on Thursday at X.
The parachutes were supplied at the request of Jordan and Bahrain. “Together with our international partners, we will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to those who need it most,” the British Ministry said.
In recent days, aid supplies have been airdropped to Palestinians in the southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the US, France and several Arab countries. Boxes of rice, pasta and beans were also dropped from planes in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, according to Palestinian security sources.
The UN did not rule out the possibility of also sending aid packages via parachute, but stressed that this was a last resort. Supply flights face technical difficulties and enormous costs, but the serious humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip makes such operations necessary.
According to the UN, the amount of aid in the Gaza Strip this month has halved compared to January. Thousands of residents are threatened with starvation. According to aid organizations, trucks carrying aid are often looted.
On Thursday, more than a hundred people were killed and around 280 people were injured near Gaza City when around thirty trucks delivering humanitarian aid and Israeli soldiers opened fire on a crowd.
