21 – 24 Major, Evian Amundi Championship, Evian Resort Golf Club, Evian-les-Bains, France. Prize money: $6,500,000
It’s tournament time with the most beautiful backdrops of the year. The stunning views of the French Alps and Lake Geneva alone justify the premier status that the Evian Championship received in 2013. For this edition, the prize money has been increased again, but we’re still talking about a smaller amount than what we saw recently in US Women’s Open and Women’s PGA Championship for women. A million dollars has been reserved for the winner on Sunday and players who do not qualify are also paid ‘unofficially’.
From winner to champion
In the short history of this tournament as the main tournament, many beautiful stories have been written, such as the story of Lydia Ko for example. In 2015, the then 18-year-old New Zealand man at Evian Resort became the youngest major winner – male and female combined. The victory 12 months ago also changed Minjee Lee a lot. The Australian golfer couldn’t win a major title in the mountains until that Sunday, but since then also winning the US Women’s Open, she has risen to number 2 in the world and was probably the best golfer of the day. “Where Minjee Lee from winner to champion,” the LPGA aptly wrote on its website.
No Kang & Lexic
Just as ‘normal’ travelers need it, the chaos at many airports doesn’t go unnoticed by some golfers. Olivia Cowan announced via social media that her luggage had not been taken on board and that Irish top brass Leona Maguire had lost her wand before reappearing on Monday. By the way, an important aspect of the Champions Course is water. That’s what the greatest people on earth will experience again this week. Apart from Danielle Kang and Lexi Thompson, they were actually all there. Including the new Big Green Egg Open winner Anna Nordqvist.

World Tour 21 – 24 DP, Cazoo Classic, Hillside Golf Club, Southport, England. Prize money: €1,750,000
Hot records have also been broken in England in recent days. Luckily, the weather is a little cooler when the Cazoo Classic gets underway on Thursday. Darius van Driel and Daan Huizing are part of one of the weaker areas of the year, on a very good track. For example, in 1982, Greg Norman said Hillside Golf Club had “the best backnine in England”. More recently, the Tour reached this short link course for the British Masters 2019, when host Tommy Fleetwood had to pick the venue.
rumor factory
Speaking of Norman, immediately after the last putt at St Andrews, the LIV rumors started again. With Claret Jug by his side dodge Champion Golfer of the Year questions about the controversial tournament series, after which reports quickly emerged that he was about to make the jump. But it looks like he’s not the only one. Henrik Stenson’s name is also mentioned explicitly and it is hoped that LIV Golf will soon announce the arrival of the two main champions. That would be very spicy, because the chances are very small that Stenson was in that case captain for next year’s Ryder Cup. That’s probably why the Normans and the Saudis wanted the Swede. This will be another scalp for LIV and a big blow for the DP World Tour (plus Team Europe). The same rumor circulated about Fleetwood mentioned above, but his wife/manager vehemently denied it in the British media.

21 – 24 PGA Tour, 3M Open, TPC Twin Cities, Blaine, Minnesota. Prize money: $7,500,000
After the last ‘male lead’ of the year, focus is moving towards the climax of the Americas season: the FedExCup Playoffs. Golfers have three tournaments left to secure card retention and accumulate enough points to reach the Playoffs. TPC Twin Cities in any case fast & decisive ready. Designed by Arnold Palmer (which was suggested by Tom Lehman), this course opened at the turn of the century on an old farm and has been on the PGA Tour since 2001. So most golfers are familiar with Minnesota’s wide fairways.
Mardy fish
Some very big stars were among those who attended the week after The Open. Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im and Sahith Theegala stand out on the initial list. The reigning champion is Cameron Champ, but he often takes five missed strokes in a row. Another interesting contestant to watch out for is Mardy Fish. Indeed, the tennis player who retired in 2015, who is often praised for his service and volleyball skills, received an invitation from sponsors. Fish is from suburban Minneapolis and has impressed several times in celebrity tournaments at the Champions Tournament at the LPGA, which he has won three times. According to Jack Nicklaus (2018), the now 40-year-old former tennis player is the best non-professional golfer he has ever seen playing. Can Fish pull off a stunt and succeed, something other celebrities fail to do every time they get the chance?
That’s a great compliment https://t.co/RQ8493TOwH

Tour Challenge 21 – 24, Big Green Egg Germany Challenge, Wittelsbacher Golf Club, Neuburg an der Donau, Germany. Prize money: €250,000
‘An der schönen, Blauen Donau’ it’s time for this week’s Big Green Egg Germany Challenge. That’s right, the big green roaster was loaded at the Rosendaelsche Golf Club and immediately heated up again in Bavaria. Last year, the tournament debuted on the Challenge Tour on a three-year contract. The playing location is the Wittelsbacher Golf Club, designed in 1986 by Dutch architect Joan Dudok van Heel.
From Old Course to Wittelsbacher
This will be another adjustment for Lars van Meijel. From the Old Course, where there is no tree to be found, to the heavily wooded garden courses of the Wittelsbacher Golf Club. With thirteen tournaments remaining, there is still plenty of time, but the number 46 from Road to Mallorca has to make it to the top 20. Robbie van West is much further than that. Last weekend, after four misses, he finished neatly in 28th.
21 – 23 LET Access, Santander Golf Tour Málaga, Golf Torrequebrada, Málaga, Spain. Prize money: €40,000
Eleven of a total of eighteen stops on the LET Access Series take the women to the Costa del Sol. True to its name, the tournament is organized in collaboration with the Santander Golf Tour, a smaller circuit in Spain. That’s why we saw a number of additional Spanish players on the initial roster, none of whom are in as good a shape as Natalia Escuriola. She’s won the last two tournaments on that tour and will be a tough contender for Lauren Holmey (last week again in second place), Nikki Hofstede, Anouk Sohier, Marit Harryvan and Lizzy Peeters.
21 – 23 Alps Tour, Rome Alps Open 2022, Parco de’ Medici Golf Club, Rome, Italy. Prize money: €40,000
Golfers from the Alps Tour will need a break after seven tournaments in a row. They will get it after the Roma Alps Open, because after that there will be no competition for about two months. However, it is not advisable to think about holidays, because there are only two tournaments left after this, so every ranking point counts. Currently, the top seven players are promoted to the Challenge Tour and ‘we’ have three compatriots in the top 10. In addition to the tournament champions Koen Kouwenaar, Davey Porsius and Vince van Veen, Lars Keunen is also still ambitious to be in thirteenth place. Floris de Haas completes the quintet in sweltering Rome. Will the Dutch quintet end a strong part of the season with new achievements?
