The LNV Ministry has published a corrected list of the 100 largest ammonia producers in the Netherlands. Where in the previously released list five farms were in the top 10, in the correct version there are only two.
The farms on this list are mostly poultry farms. ‘New’ in the top 10 are the two Suiker Unie locations and the Saint Gobain Construction Products factory, previously lower on the list.
The largest emitting livestock farm on the first list, a company in Venray, has fallen out of the top 10. It now emits only 36,370 kilos, instead of the previously announced more than 100,000 kilos.
The largest nitrogen emitter in livestock is now a company in Maasdriel. Its emissions are no different from the first list, but the company is still higher than before. This is because the emissions of other companies on the list have been adjusted downwards.
regrettable mistake
In a explanation with a top 100 increase, minister Christianne van der Wal (Nature and Nitrogen) wrote that she found a regrettable mistake. He also stressed that although the companies mentioned are the largest producers of ammonia, this does not mean that they are also among the top 100 top loaders in the Natura 2000 area.
The Minister also stated that the list is based on figures from 2019, as these are the most recent data. ‘So maybe the current situation is different.’
