The coronation of Charles and his wife Camilla was followed by millions of people around the world. Camilla in particular looked eye-catching throughout the day. “He radiates”, Angela de Jong, columnist and TV connoisseur, responds at WNL In de Kantine on NPO Radio 1.
For a long time Camilla was ‘the most hated woman in Great Britain’. Charles and Camilla were already in a relationship when Charles was still married to Diana, who was loved by the British people. “I am moved to see people now embracing Camilla after so many years,” said De Jong. “Love conquers all in the end.”
What touched the reporter for the De Telegraaf royal family, Pieter Klein Beernink, was when Prince William touched Charles’s crown. “It was a moment of tribute to his father as king. He also kissed his father. That moment wasn’t in the script.”
Charles appeared “emotionless”, according to many commentators. But according to Kleine Beernink, none of that is true. “What was too quickly overlooked was that Charles was a very religious man. Her coronation was a church service and I think she was very emotional the whole time.”
Prince Harry
Prince Harry, who gave up his royal duties several years ago, was also present at the coronation. His wife Megan was not present. The 38-year-old British prince is said to have been seen an hour after his coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey at Heathrow Airport to fly back to his family in the US.
