‘Help make elections for the House of Representatives easily accessible and understandable for people with mild intellectual disabilities.’
ProDemos together with other community organizations conveyed this call in a letter to the leaders of political parties participating in the upcoming DPR elections.
For many people with mild intellectual disabilities (MID), politics and elections are complicated and information about elections and the parties they support is difficult to understand. Information that is easy to access and understand helps them go to the polls better prepared.
The letter asks party leaders to think about how they can contribute to this. For example, by offering easily accessible communication tools or talking to people with mild intellectual disabilities. They were also asked to answer questions from MID sufferers in short videos. The video can be seen at Batangjijook.nl – information website for people with MID.
The letter to party leaders is an initiative of ProDemos, ASVZ, LFB, Elke(in), Philadelphia, Reinaerde, VGN and Zorgbelang Inclusief. The letter to party leaders is part of the ProDemos project ‘Vote Too?’.
