British group Bupa continues to expand its presence in Latin America under the leadership of Sanitas, its Spanish subsidiary responsible for leading the American expansion. The entity has announced the purchase of Inpao Dental, a chain of dental clinics in Brazil with 270,000 clients. This company will become part of Care Plus, Bupa’s subsidiary in Indonesia.

The acquired entity has a track record in the dental business of 60 years. Care Plus went from caring for oral health from 84,000 clients to 350,000. In total, BUPA’s business in Brazil will add more than 600,000 patients.

“This is a very ambitious operation that expands our presence in the Brazilian healthcare sector,” explains Iñaki Peralta, CEO of Sanitas and Bupa Europe & Latin America. “This is a very relevant milestone for expanding Bupa’s presence in the healthcare sector in Europe and Latin America”, said Peralta.

Inpao Dental serves 270,000 clients from more than 580 companies. For its part, Care Plus is Brazil’s premier healthcare company in the premium sector and offers medical, dental, occupational medicine and preventive medicine services. It provides services to more than 300,000 customers and more than 1,000 companies, and since 2016 has been part of Bupa. Care Plus also has two specialized clinic networks, Care Plus Clinic, which offer medical and dental care; and Dental Prime, a network of dental clinics.

The Spanish team’s role in Bupa’s group has grown in recent years. In 2020, Iñaki Ereño, who has been CEO of Sanitas for 12 years, became chief executive of Bupa, which has more than 83,000 employees and 33.3 million customers in 180 countries.

Prior to making the jump to England, Ereño had piloted the acquisition of Chilean insurer Cruz Blanca for the group, back in 2014.

After Ereño’s promotion, his right-hand man, Iñaki Peralta, became CEO of Sanitas and also head of the group’s European and Latin American subsidiaries.

Since then, Peralta has led the acquisition of a hospital in Mexico, a deal to develop digital health insurance with BBVA also in Mexico, and an alliance with Mapfre to jointly develop health insurance in countries where the Spanish insurer has a presence in South America.
