British Home Secretary Suella Braverman herself is the daughter of migrants. But when it comes to immigration, he doesn’t shy away from rants.
For example, last year the minister spoke of the ‘invasion’ of boat migrants, with ‘values that are contrary to the values of our country’. Additionally, Braverman is the driving force behind a controversial plan to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda in Africa. “I would love to be on the front page Telegraph by plane taking off for Rwanda,” he said in an October interview with the newspaper. “That’s my dream, that’s my obsession.”
Braverman also regularly throws himself into debates with fire in other areas of charge, such as climate. That’s how he learned about the traffic chaos in London last year due to climate protests.Guardian-read, wakerati tofu eaters.’
Bath soap
Sue-Ellen Cassiana Braverman, her full name, is taken from the name Sue Ellen from the popular American soap opera ‘Dallas’ at the time of her birth. He was brought up in politics at home. His father and mother, respectively Indians from Kenya and Mauritius who came to Britain in the 1960s, were both active in the Conservative Party.
Braverman (43) belongs to the Tories right wing. He supports tax cuts and deregulation, and applauds Britain’s exit from the European Union. Her idol is former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He also hopes to become prime minister one day.
People who knew Braverman before told British media he was warm and generous in personal matters. But his ideas earned him loathing in progressive circles. And his scathing remarks about immigrants and minorities caused unease in the more traditional Tories wing.
“Braverman’s own ethnicity has protected him from criticism for too long,” Sayeeda Warsi, a Conservative member of the House of Lords, wrote recently in an opinion piece on Guard. “Black and brown people can be racist too.”
Certainly a bit private than fine
Braverman is now discredited for being caught speeding last year. As a penalty, he was then given a choice between a driving skills course or a fine and three penalty points on his driver’s license. Worried about the consequences for his insurance, Braverman prefers the traffic lane. Such courses are usually followed in groups, but according Sunday time Braverman allegedly abused his position to arrange private courses to keep his offenses public. When officials refused to grant his request, he still paid the fine.
The unrest has been painful for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who promised a professional and honest government when he took office in October after all the upheaval under his predecessors Liz Truss and Boris Johnson. The prime minister is currently checking with his ethics adviser whether regulations have been breached and what the possible consequences will be.
Braverman vowed in the House of Commons on Monday that nothing untoward had happened. According to him, the left-wing opposition is trying to turn mosquitoes into elephants. “I will continue my work for the British people.”
