The inaugural hearing for the summons of the former PAN presidential candidate was last Monday, January 31. Ricardo Anayawhich will be imposed in cases of alleged bribery to approve energetic reformwas postponed at the last minute due to health complications from the judge in charge of the proceedings.

Sources related to confirmed cases to Political Animal decisions made by the administrative judges of the Federal Justice Center located in the Northern Preventive Prison. The trial was rescheduled for February 14.

This is the third time that the inaugural trial that the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has asked for has been postponed, and will charge PAN members with three crimes: bribery, criminal association, and money laundering.

The case emerged from an FGR-initiated investigation folder based on a complaint filed by former PEMEX director, Emilio Lozoya, and in which he stated that the resources transferred by construction company Odebrecht would be used to bribe opposition legislators with the aim of approving energy reforms. This is in the six-year term of former President Enrique Peña Nieto.

According to the investigation, nearly one hundred million pesos will be paid, of which more than six million 800 thousand pesos are sent to Ricardo Anaya. PAN members have repeatedly pointed out that this accusation is wrong and that the investigation had political persecution behind it.

It should be noted that in the first two attempts to hold this trial, federal judge Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia has allowed Anaya to appear via videoconference. However, after FGR denounced that the former PAN presidential candidate had left Mexico since July last year, the judge ordered him to appear in person on January 31.

According to the judicial authorities, Anaya’s obligation to attend in person will continue to February 14 trial.
