Italy
When Italian politician Giorgia Meloni won the election alongside the Fratelli d’Italia, European politics was shaken. Is the rise of right-wing parties imminent? What possibilities for right-wing cooperation lie beyond the horizon? At the same time, for many, European politics is black box – blurry, many of which are displayed in the corridor. Sid Lukkassen spoke to experts on this theme to shed light on what is shrouded in mystery to many.
With Gerolf Annemans of Vlaams Belang, Paolo Borchia of Lega Italia, liberal analyst Pieter Cleppe and Steve Bannon’s aide Ben Harnwell, Sid Lukkassen has critical and in-depth conversations about European politics. We hear so little from the European Parliament, does it seem so? And if so – what is it? It also seems that right-wing parties are often busier oppose then with each other. How about this? Is everyone going alone or is a coordinating partnership in the works as well?
Brexit
What are the consequences of Brexit? Right-wing parties in favor of national sovereignty usually look to the somewhat more isolated UK (at least in perception), to slow down the euro-federal union of member states. National conservative parties must now reflect forms of ‘continental conservatism’. How did this happen to them? Can the more conservative Visegrád countries – Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia – chart an alternative ideological direction for the EU? Or are the politicians of these countries more pragmatic than ideological, and are primarily focused on financial compensation from Western Europe? Can the contradiction between net contributors to the EU and net recipients be completely resolved?
Sid experiences the limitations of parliamentary politics and is not afraid to discuss them. Right-wing parties can deploy a battalion of policy advisers, but if left-wing parties unite with mainstream parties to shut them down, right-wing voters are essentially not served. How do those involved see this? Sid speaks from personal experience and does not hide his true opinion. You can follow it through the newsletter or support via For art.
