“The fact that women live longer than men highlights why the Foundation is
Movember focuses on men’s health. We want to impact health
men worldwide and reduce the life expectancy gap between men and women”
adam garon
This movement was born in 2003 in Melbourne, driven by 30 decided young people
grow their mustaches to support a friend who has prostate cancer. this group
The original was renamed “The Original 30”. Since 2004 the foundation was born with that purpose
to help men suffering from prostate cancer, testicular cancer, problems with
mental health and physical activity, raising funds to allocate them to fight this
disease.
The country where the idea was born and where the funds were first raised is Australia, but already in
2007 Canada, Spain, the United States, and the United Kingdom echo the movement
and they started their collection. Currently present all over the planet.
The Movember Foundation has raised 485 million euros since its inception to date
Inside the foundation we find “Mo Bros and Mo Sisters” What does that mean?
The idea of this movement is that on November 1 men must shave completely
his face and subsequently grew a mustache. But not in any way, there are some
a standard that is also the foundation for cultivating followers and giving them away a lot
involvement with the problem.
People will ask you about the mustache you let grow and there you have your shot
to tell you about the main cause of the Foundation, the fight against prostate cancer and what
prevention is important in this case.
It’s not exclusive to men. As a good woman and Mo Sister, you can help the cause
also make your donation.
What is important is raising awareness and informing about prostate cancer; it is the second most common cancer
common in men around the world and thanks to this foundation and this moustached movement
In Spain, the Movember Foundation financed two projects at the Vall University Hospital
d’Hebrón and CIBERehd.
Here in Galicia, from the HULA Urology Service in Lugo (Lucas University Hospital
Augusti) has been supporting the foundation for over 7 years so, like Dr.
Javier Casas Nebra: “to be able to make men visible and motivated to go to a urologist. Women are very aware and increasingly aware of the importance of having annual gynecological checkups, however
Men are not as aware of the importance of prevention and their visits to urologists
of a certain age. We must promote consultation on men’s health.”
Urology Service, every November joins the cause and at the end of the month they do a
a photo of a man and woman dressed as “important mustaches” as Groucho
marx, freddie mercury, charlie chaplin…a fun and visual way to publish this
movement.
