Wheelchair tennis player Niels Vink won the Wimbledon title in the singles quad class on Sunday. On Saturday, the Dutchman won the double in London with Sam Schröder.
In the final, twenty-year-old Vink was too big for Australian Heath Davidson, who was sixteen years his senior. De Brabander has lost only three matches and finished within an hour: 6-1, 6-2.
It meant Vink’s first Wimbledon singles title. Previously, his name was won by the winner of the Grand Slam Roland Garros four times (twice) and the US Open.
This was Vink’s second final win at Wimbledon in two days. He won on Saturday alongside Schröder in the doubles final against the Davidson/Rob Shaw duo.
Diede de Groot won the wheelchair tennis double with compatriot Jiske Griffioen on Sunday. The Dutch duo beat Yui Kamiji/Kgothatso Montjane who took first place: 6-1, 6-4.
De Groot extended his Wimbledon singles title on Saturday by facing Griffioen in the final: 6-2, 6-1. The 26-year-old De Groot now has nineteen Grand Slam singles titles, two fewer than record holder Esther Vergeer.
