Amsterdam, 18 October 2023 – Verizon Business, GELSEN-NET and K-TEL today announced the opening of the Ruhr Digital Hub in Germany. It is the latest innovation hub in a growing global space network focused on 5G, MEC and other connected technologies. The new hub is a joint venture with Verizon Business, IT systems developer GELSEN-NET and IT supplier K-TEL.

The Digital Hub is located at GELSEN-NET’s business premises in Gelsenkirchen, just 80 kilometers from the Dutch border. The hub serves as a showroom and innovation hub for advanced 5G edge computing and IoT (Internet of Things) solutions. It is a flexible, 160-square-meter environment that serves a variety of use cases leveraging advanced 5G, fiber and LoRaWAN campus networks. Key use cases and sectors include crowd management, smart city applications, manufacturing and logistics, and medical technology.

Digital Hub Ruhr is integrated into various projects in the city of Gelsenkirchen. This hub shows the scope and usefulness of private cloud structures and facilitates connections between innovators and municipal governments with RuhrCix – the central internet hub in the Ruhr region. This was done in collaboration with Dexic and city operators GELSE-NET, Dokom and Glasphaser Ruhr. The Digital Hub Ruhr connects institutions, companies, researchers and cities. The hub is expected to open on November 16.
