US President Joe Biden arrived in England on Sunday evening for meetings with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and King Charles. Therefore including military aid to Ukraine.

On Monday morning, Biden will meet the British Prime Minister at his official residence at 10 Downing Street for informal talks ahead of the NATO summit in Lithuania on Tuesday. British media did not expect Sunak to criticize the US decision to supply cluster munitions to Ukraine. The UK is seen as the US’s most important military ally in Europe.

After that, Biden will meet King Charles III for the first time since being crowned earlier this year. The White House said it wanted to strengthen the bond between Biden, 80, and Charles, 74, who don’t know each other very well.

However, the main reason for Biden’s European trip will be the NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, which starts on Tuesday. There, Western military allies will discuss support for Ukraine to oust the Russian occupation. Biden also wants to use the summit to persuade Turkey to stop opposing Sweden’s application for NATO membership.

The final stop on Thursday will be Finland, where the US president will attend a summit of the Nordic countries in the capital, Helsinki. Finland renounced its historical neutrality and decided to join NATO after neighboring Russia invaded Ukraine. (AP)
