UK supports the formation of the Central American Journalists Network

The British embassies in Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica supported the XII Central American Journalism Forum organized by the independent media El Faro, where the establishment of the Central American Journalists Network was announced.

The network seeks to work with journalists in the region to address the challenges they face and provide action to protect freedom of expression. Similarly, he will also look for ways to strengthen journalism and make it sustainable with the help of various donor countries and international organizations.

Journalists Network will seek to provide alliances to defend civic space, supporting the mental health of journalists and bring citizens closer to their right to information.

The British Embassy in Guatemala reports that during the opening ceremony of Forocap, the British Ambassador to Guatemala, Nick Whittingham, met with various journalists and exchanged views on the state of press freedom, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to supporting my work in the region. .

From November 3 to 5, journalists from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua met in Antigua Guatemala to participate in the 2022 Central American Journalism Forum, whichsupported by funds from the UK.

The journalists participated in five different workshops given by renowned local and international journalists, where they discussed the rise of innovative news formats such as podcasts, the state of press freedom in the region, and open debate on current issues in Latin America.
