UK security Eurostar crashes on busiest days

Security guards working for the Eurostar rail company plan to go on strike for four days in December. In doing so, they threaten to disrupt thousands of city trips during the holiday season. The activists demanded that their wages increase with inflation, but according to the RMT union, their employer Mitie refused.

Four days of strike

Train service employees between the UK and France, Belgium and the Netherlands will stop working on December 16, 18, 22 and 23. That’s the period in which tourists like to visit cities like Paris and London. Strike days overlapped with other actions on British railways.

RMT expects more than 100 security guards to join the strike. Since their work is essential to the safety of rail passengers, unions are sure of a lot of distractions and distractions for passengers.

Impact unclear

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said Mitie, where Eurostar outsourced the security work, could easily be paid higher wages than the company wanted. “A multi-million dollar company like Mitie could easily pay security guards a decent salary for the important work they do.”

According to Eurostar, staff checking luggage in front of border crossings are particularly on strike. These security officers are not responsible for passport checks carried out by French officials. According to a Eurostar spokesperson, it is not yet clear what impact the strike will have. “If our service is affected, we will notify our customers.”
