Two new cases of monkeypox in Colombia

It Minister of Health and the National Institutes of Health confirmed two new cases of monkeypox in Colombia. The cases identified by SDS Bogotá were confirmed by the INS this Friday afternoon, following the entity’s laboratory diagnosis.

They are two adults, the first with a history of travel to Europe and secondly, with a first epidemiological link and no travel history. Both were positive by PCR on different samples.

Both cases are still isolated and treated on an outpatient basis. The Bogotá Health Secretariat, the territorial entity that conducts appropriate epidemiological field investigations and epidemiological fences of identified contacts, traces contacts referred by patients with a travel history and other infected persons denying other contacts in the country. .

To date, five cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in the country. Four in Bogotá and one in Medellín.

Manifestations of monkeypox may include fever, severe headache, muscle aches, backache, low energy, swollen lymph nodes, and skin rash or maculopapular lesions. In case of showing symptoms or if you have been in contact with a suspected case, you should contact EPS or go to a health center.

Although in most cases, Symptoms go away on their own in a few weeks in some people they can cause medical complications and even death. That’s why it’s important to consult.

The World Health Organization, WHO, has stated that until now and despite outbreaks in various countries around the world and after a risk assessment, this event is not considered a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
