In ten weeks we will know whether Og3ne will win the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev. The girls themselves have indicated that they want to win. That is good news. If everything goes well, they can join the four below. The Netherlands has won the Eurovision Song Contest four times. In short: time for the big 4.

“Is it that long ago?” Yes, it is. The last time the Netherlands won the Eurovision Song Contest was in 1975, thanks to the Enschede pop group Teach-In. With their simple but powerful song Ding-A-Dong, they beat the hugely popular group The Shadows by 14 points in the Swedish capital Stockholm. In 1969 things got a lot more interesting. Then four countries all finished with the same number of points. The organisation never took this scenario into account and the Netherlands, France, Spain and the UK were declared the winners. But of course that doesn’t make Lenny Kuhr’s The Troubadour’s victory any less valuable. For the Netherlands’ first two wins we have to go back to the 1950s. Corry Brokken and Teddy Scholten won in 1957 and 1959 respectively with the songs Net Als Toen and Een Beetje. The former song in particular has now faded from collective memory, but true Eurovision fans will be able to sing it from start to finish without any problems.
