Chilean Senate approves Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement

The Chilean Senate approved this Tuesday with 27 votes in favor, 10 against and 1 abstention from the Trans-Pacific Association’s Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement, better known as TPP11.

“The free trade agreement has undoubtedly contributed a lot not only to Chile, but to other countries in the region and the world, but we also have to review issues that have become an international debate, one of which is the mechanism for resolving the controversy,” said the Minister. Overseas of the country, Antonia Urrejola.

The draft agreement now goes to the Chamber of Deputies to communicate the approval of the National Congress to the Executive.

This trade agreement involves 11 countries: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. Among its aims are to promote economic integration, establish a predictable legal framework for trade, facilitate regional trade and promote sustainable growth.
