Today: Calvin Harris hits number 1

Calvin Harris scored his first number 1 hit with Summer on May 24, 2014.

Adam Richard Wiles filled his bedroom with equipment in the late 1990s and managed to translate his musical style into the first demos in 1999. Two years later he was ready for his first release, the songs Da Bongos and Brighter Days, which he released under the artist name Stouffer. To further develop the quality of his music, he moved from Dumfries, Scotland to London. There is Let Me Know with Ayah Marar’s vocals, one of the first songs he performed.

Not long after, Wiles returned to Dumfries where he started posting some songs on Myspace, which was the biggest social network between 2005 and 2009. There Mark Gillespie discovered his qualities and not long after he offered him a contract. His stage name Calvin Harris was also created at that time. In 2006, while working at Three Six Zero Group, he made a remix of the song Rock Steady (All Saints), which also happened to be the British girl group’s last hit in our country.

Calvin Harris’s first album was I Created Disco, released in the spring of 2007, containing 14 songs he produced on a Commodore Amiga, a classic PC produced between 1985 and 1996. Calvin Harris’ success continued to grow when he toured the UK with Faithless and Groove Fleet. Singles such as Acceptable In The 80’s and The Girls made it to the UK top 10. Meanwhile, Kylie Minogue also knows the Scottish DJ and he wrote and produced the songs Heart Beat Rock and In My Arms for her albums on the UK album charts. Two songs from the album made it to the Dutch Tipparade.

In 2011, Harris was a supporting act for Rihanna’s European Loud Tour. “He will bring something special to his fans,” he said of the DJ previously. Shortly before the tour starts, Bounce, a collaboration with Kelis, will be released. The song would be his debut in the Top 40. But We Found Love, a collaboration with Rihanna, clearly put the DJ on the charts. The song spent no less than 8 weeks in third place on the Top 40.

It wasn’t until 2014 that Calvin Harris’ second top 10 hit followed. He has performed several collaborations, where on Summer, as on Feel So Close, he once again handles the vocals himself. A brilliant move as this would be Calvin Harris’ first number 1 hit in our country.

This day includes the birthdays of G-Eazy (1989) and Kiiara (1995).
