Three Bulgarians in Britain have been accused of spying for Russia

BBC News reported this. The three, a 45 year old man from Great Yarmouth and a husband and wife (aged 41 and 31) from Harrow, arrested in February during Britain’s massive national security inquiry.

Wrong intentions

The three are from Bulgaria and are said to be working for Russian intelligence services. They were accused of possessing identity cards with ‘wrongful intent’. Passports, identity cards and other documents were found in at least nine different countries: England, Bulgaria, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic. According to the British, the three must have known that the letters were fake.

It is not known what information the suspected spies collected and passed on to Russia. The Bulgarians are said to have lived in the UK for many years and held various jobs. They are due to appear in court in London in January.

Deadly ending

Britain’s anti-terrorism brigade said it should spend more time tackling state threats and espionage, especially those related to Russia.

There have been several deadly Russian intelligence operations in the UK in recent years. For example, in July 2018, a woman in Amesbury died after exposure to the deadly novichok poison.

Earlier that year, Russian agents in Salisbury tried to kill former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia with the same poison. They barely survived the attack.

In 2006, Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned by the Russian secret service by adding polonium to his tea. Litvinenko is a former Russian secret service officer.
