The European Women’s Football Championship kicks off on Wednesday night at the legendary Old Trafford. But not every game is played in big stadiums. In fact, several countries played their group stage at Manchester City’s training complex, where only 7,000 seats were available.
While the smallest stadium has over 38,000 seats during the 2020 European Football Championship for men, the largest stadium at the Women’s European Championship (excluding the final and opening matches) does not even have that number of seats. Belgium, Iceland and Italy will play at the Manchester City Academy Stadium.
It looks bad
But also Leigh Sports Village (Women ManUnited) and New York Stadium (Rotherham) can barely accommodate a large number of families. National coach Mark Parsons was furious: “What if we let the best people in the world play in a stadium like that? Then we don’t think it’s good,” he told De Telegraaf.

The Orange Lionesses were still able to welcome the most fans as they (or ‘we’) played 2 matches at the Sheffield stadium. At Bramall Lane there are almost 33,000 places available and it will be against Sweden and Switzerland. The match against Portugal will be played at the small Leigh Sports Village stadium.
