You may have missed it, or you may not have cared, but the UK has a new Prime Minister. Liz Truss takes over from Boris Johnson. That’s probably good news for car enthusiasts now that unlimited speed is here German Autobahn in limbo.
Ahead of her appointment, Liz Truss made several statements about British highways. For example, he would critically look at the ‘smart highways’ they have there. Apparently they weren’t big fans of the variable speed and rush hour lanes there; those things can be deleted.
No more speed limits in the UK?
Even more interesting is Truss’s statement about the speed limit. He had previously said in a debate that he was willing to abolish speed limits on British highways. In 2018 he was already arguing for a higher maximum speed and it seems he wants to go further.

Truss has now actually been appointed prime minister. It remains to be seen if something will actually come from the UK’s no-speed highway. Saying something during an election is one thing, but implementing it is often much more difficult. There may be a downside when it comes to emissions. In addition, not all roads in the UK are well maintained for speeds above 200 km/h.
