WHO warns about this respiratory disorder
Several countries have already recommended special actions to their teams and fans
The COVID19 pandemic has caused authentic international chaos since its expansion in March 2020. Thousands of deaths and serious consequences of all kinds have led to a change of mentality in most societies. Other, lesser-known coronaviruses still exist and can cause serious problems: MERS-CoV or better known as the ‘camel virus’.
Serious respiratory disease plagued the Middle East for many years and infected humans, bats and camels. Almost all patients with viral infections have been infected in the countries of the Arabian Peninsula and surrounding. Nasal secretions are known camels are carriers of disease and certain bat species appear to be reservoirs of the virus, although some infections have occurred through direct or close contact with an infected person. Cases have occurred in health workers who treat patients.
The worst data about this disease is the mortality rate. Unlike other coronaviruses, MERS-CoV is much more deadly among those who have contracted the disease: 35% of those infected have died, according to data from the World Health Organization. Although cases have been infected there, there are cases in many parts of the world such as UK, USA or Spainwhere a woman tested positive in November 2013.
Qatar, the host of the World Cup, has acknowledged 28 cases and 7 deaths within its borders, although other sources suggest that it could be data created by the Qatari regime so as not to cause fear.
Infection and incubation
According to the special website MedLine, the virus can spread between people who have close contact and this includes healthcare workers who care for people with MERS.
The incubation period for this virus is not known for certain. This is the time that elapses between one’s time got a virus and when you have symptoms. The average incubation period is about 5 daysbut there are cases where they appear from 2 to 14 days after exposure.
