These films were delayed by a strike in Hollywood

You’ve probably seen it on the news: the Hollywood strike. With this strike (which was the biggest in decades), actors and screenwriters called for better working conditions. But that meant the shooting of various films and series came to a halt. JAN lets you know which movies and series are pending.

Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two

Although the first part of the Mission Impossible series is still showing in theaters, the filmmakers plan to release the second part in June 2024. But thanks to the strike, the second part of the spy thriller with Tom Cruise was slightly delayed. The director, Christopher McQuarrie, indicated that the film was only 40 percent shot when the strike broke. You get the idea: the planned release date seems like the real thing mission Impossible.

Beetle juice 2

The long-awaited second part of Tim Burton’s iconic film, Beetlejuice, is also expected to hit the big screen later. The film, which sees Michael Keaton reprise his role as the filthy ghost, is still planned for several days of shooting in Vermont. Thanks to the strike, these shooting days were a bit longer, and therefore the planned release date as well.

dead pool 3

Filming for the Marvel comic book film, which stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, mostly took place in the United Kingdom. No problem, you say. But the strikes continued even there. Film production has been halted. Therefore, we can most likely write the planned release date of May 2024 in our stomachs.

Lilo & Stitch – Live Action

For anyone who is a fan of Disney’s Live Action films, this may be a disappointment, but production of the live-action remake of 2002’s Disney classic Lilo & Stitch has also stalled. The film was originally supposed to be ready in August this year, but its release was threatened with being postponed due to a strike.

Mufasa: The Lion King – the continuation of the live-action version of The Lion King – is also reportedly still in the production process. Perhaps the film’s production is far enough away to prevent delays, but we don’t know for sure. If the film isn’t delayed despite the strike, you can enjoy it in theaters from July 2024.

gladiators 2

Another big and highly anticipated sequel that will most likely be delayed: Gladiator 2. Filming, which was partially shot in Morocco and Malta, has concluded. But the film still has to be about a third done. The recording was now completely silent. Fans of the film – the first part of which was released back in 2000 – will have to endure even more.

And that’s not all…

Other delayed films include Mortal Kombat 2, Venom 3, Avatar 3 & 4, Alien: Romulus, Thunderbolt, Fast X: Part 2, Inside Out 2, Scream VII, and The Conjuring: Last Rites. The entire laundry list.

And the series can’t escape delays either. House of the Dragon, the twelfth season of American Horror Story and the fourth season of Emily in Paris (sob…) were also postponed, among others.
