Kiev confirmed on Monday afternoon that it had started “offensive actions” on several sectors of the front. They have turned a fortune for Ukraine near the destroyed town of Bachmut. At the same time, Ukraine minimized the scale of attacks that Moscow claims have repelled.
Earlier in the day, the Russian army had announced that it had killed 900 Ukrainian soldiers in 24 hours in an attempt to repel the Ukrainian attack. The enemy has failed to reach its objective. Near Neskutsjne, in what Russia describes as the People’s Republic of Donetsk, and at Novodarivka, in the Zaporizhia region, Russia is said to have inflicted heavy losses on Ukraine.
“The Bachmut sector remains the center of hostilities,” Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maljar told Telegram. “On a fairly broad front, we are moving forward and achieving success.”
Just last month, Russia overtook Bachmoet after months of heavy fighting. But according to Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, “part of the village of Berkhivka, north of Bachmut, has been lost”, which he called “shameful”. He took advantage of the defeat to once again attack Valeri Gerasimov, the commander of the Ukrainian invasion, and Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu.
A commander of pro-Russian separatists in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, Aleksander Khodakovsky, has previously denied that Russia had repelled the offensive.
According to Khodakovsky, “the enemy knows success” and moreover it was a smaller “tactical move” and not a major operation. The enemy has put us in a difficult position. The commander also indicated that he had seen a Leopard tank, which was part of a Western arms shipment, in the “tactical room” for the first time. (AP)
