The UK is holding a global summit on artificial intelligence (AI) security this fall. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced this in Washington on Wednesday. The topic will also be discussed in the conversation the UK Prime Minister is having with US President Joe Biden on Thursday.
During the summit, AI risks will be discussed and how these can be mitigated through international agreements, said Sunak. But we also see how the potential of this new technology can be harnessed.
“AI has tremendous potential to change our lives for the better. But we have to ensure that it is developed and used in a safe way,” said the UK head of government.
“Throughout history, we have invented innovative technologies time and time again and used them for the good of humanity. That’s what needs to happen again.”
In some countries, there is already talk of drafting rules to curb the harms of AI. The same goes for China, billionaire Elon Musk said earlier after meeting officials during his recent trip to the country.
