The Sun, which earlier this week broke the news about a BBC celebrity allegedly paying money for photographs of minors, has no intention of filing more charges any time soon. The newspaper also promised to cooperate with the BBC’s investigation. The Sun reported this on Wednesday night.
The presenter who has been accused of sexually abusing several young people in recent days turned out to be Huw Edwards on Wednesday. This was disclosed by his wife in a statement which was also prepared on behalf of the presenter. Edwards will pay minors for explicit photos, among other things. According to his wife, the presenter is now being treated in hospital due to mental health problems.
Edwards, 61, is a familiar face from BBC News. For example, he was the presenter who announced in September that Queen Elizabeth had died. Edwards grew up in Wales and has worked for the BBC since 1984. He is now one of the highest paid employees at the British broadcaster, earning around 510,000 euros last year.
Last week, British tabloid newspaper The Sun revealed that a BBC presenter had paid a minor to disclose the picture. The newspaper did not mention his name. More accusations followed in the following days. He would send intimidating messages and try to arrange meetings with people who were either underage or in their early twenties at most.
The UK has reacted with shock to the disclosure, but there are also Brits who have questioned whether the story should have been published for privacy reasons.
